WELLINGTON'S NORTHERN TOUR

INTERPROVINCIAL RECORD NOW NOT SO IMPRESSIVE

Wellington's record in interprovincial matches this season does not now look quite as imposing as it did before the team at present engaged on the northern tour left last -week. Three matches comprise the itinerary for the tour. Two of these, against Hawkc's Bay and against Wariganui, had to be played prior to today, and in each the Wellington representatives, were defeated, in 4he game with Hawkc's Bay by a big margin. Prior to this engagement Hawke's Bay had shown some signs of staleness after having enjoyed a very unsuccessful season, but they were back into something like their best form on Saturday arid Wellington had no chance with them, being beaten, according^fo all accounts, back and forward. The Hawke's Bay forwards, who this week made the Springboks step lively, were a vigorous, bustling bunch, and they were well supported by the backs. Wellington's showing against Wanganui was disappointing, particularly after having a five-point lead at half-lime. The team apparently suffered from a lack of finish. They had the opportunities, but could not finish off a number of promising movements. The Wellington team's northern tour concludes this afternoon with a match, against Auckland, who on their home ground recently went down to a depleted Hawke's Bay side.

weight and speed, there, are many who think he would make a, great forward. According to the "Rugby News," the official organ of the Auckland Rugby Union, it is his intention to play in the forwards in South Africa next season.

Broodrijk severely injured a shoulder in Australia, and made his first appearance in New Zealand when he played on the left wing against the West Coast combined team at GreymouHh. In this game he started rather slowly, but as the game progressed and he began to find his feet after his enforced absence from match-play, he showed himself to be a dashing, powerful winger.
