The monthly contest lor the General Motors Golf Shield was played on the Wellington Golf Club's links at Here«.aunga on Thursday. . . Although the weather was unfavourable in the mornting it cleared-in-thc afternoon and conditions were ideal. The Herctaunga course was at its best, and all players [thoroughly enjoyed the day. Teams ■competing were the Shell Co. of New Zealand, Ltd.,, Texas .Co. (Australasia), 'I,td., Atlantic Union Oil Co., Ltd. Vacuum Oil Co.-, -Ply.'. Ltd.. Combined Tyre Companies, and General Motors, The shield won by the Shell Company, who' 'defeated last month s 3iolders,: the Atlantic Union, by one point. The contest- is played in teams of four ' and resulted as follows:—Shell Co of N.Z., Ltd., 293; Atlantic Union Oil Co., Ltd., 294;-Texas Co. (Australasia), Ltd., 301; Vacuum Oil Co.. Pty., Ltd., 313- General Motors N.Z., Ltd., 314;; Combined Tyre Companies, 344. Two of the four monthly contests for the shield have now been played, and total aggregate points are as follows:— Atlantic Union Oil Co., Ltd., 625; Texas Co. (Australasia), Ltd., 648; General Motors, N.Z., Ltd., 651; Shell Co. of N.Z., Ltd.', 655; Vacuum Oil Co., Pty., Ltd., 666; Ford Motor Co. of N.Z., Ltd., 681; Combined Tyre Companies, 687. Prizes'won on Thursday were as fol3ows:—Best net score: First, B. E. Mills f Atlantic), 77, 12—65; second, A. G. Johnston (Shell), 91, 22—G9; third. J. 33. Hanratty (Shell), €4, 14^70. A hidden score competition resulted 5n a win for Mr. W. H. Pringle (Texas), Mr. F. H. Whatley (Goodyear) being W/mi. . ~ The winner of the best scorn. Mr. B. 35 Mills, played splendid golf to record a score which was eight strokes below hisrhandicap. Mr. H. G. Miller (Firestone) ogam beted as umpire. Mr W. E. Hill (General Motors) presented the shield to the winning Shell Company team, which was comprised of Messrs. J. K. L. Wcblinc. J. E. Hanratfv J B. Price, and A. G. Johnston.
