BUTTER MARKET
AUCKLAND REPRESENTA-
TIONS
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
AUCKLAND, September 17.
Reasons why no further legislative action should be taken to control the butter market in the Auckland district were placed before the Director of International Marketing, Mr. F. R. Picot, at a conference held in Auckland after he had arrived from Wellington. Representatives of the trade, which includes twelve distributing firms, submitted evidence they had obtained to show why they felt that the present administration of the market was so efficient that no Government action should be taken.
Since the Government by Orders in Council on September 4, effected stabilisation of internal butter marketing throughout the Dominion and fixed prices which showed no variation from the wholesale rates already ruling in Auckland under independent marketing, merchants have freely expressed the view that Auckland should be excluded from any control scheme. It has been stated that Auckland merchants have arrived at an independent system of marketing which not only has been responsible for considerable efficiency within the trade, but has also resulted in satisfaction for the public.
After considerable evidence had been placed before Mr. Picot it was decided, in order to assist him as much as possible by simplifying the material to be considered, to adjourn the conference until tomorrow.
