NORTHERLY WINDS AGAIN

Special forecast for Wellington:— Light to moderate southerly winds, changing shortly to northerlies and later freshening. Weather line and milder. The general forecast for ' the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today for the ensuing twenty-four hours, is for light to moderate southerly winds predominating at first about and north of Cook Strait. Northerlies will prevail south of Westport and Kaikoura and will gradually become general. Winds will be light to moderate in force, but will later freshen about and south of Cook Strait. The weather will be fair to fine and milder, but in Westland and in the far south it will cloud over tomorrow and rain will gradually develop. An anticyclone now lies centrally over New Zealand, while a depression is located over the western Tasman Sea. Yesterday strong southerly winds Blew between Cook Strait and East Cape and showers fell in that area, but elsewhere the southerlies were mainly light to moderate in force and the weather mostly fair. ' By this morning winds were light to moderate generally, and a change to northerlies had taken place over the southern half of the South Island. At 9 a.m. today a few isolated showers were still reported between Cape Palliser and East Cape, but otherwise the weather was fair to fine generally. Auckland has had fine and clear weather with a cool southerly breeze. In Wellington yesterday it was cold and for the most part cloudy, only 1.9 hours of bright sunshine being recorded. A moderate to strong southerly wind prevailed, and a shower or two, totalling one point of rain, fell during the late afternoon and evening. Christchurch had a dull morning, but the afternoon1 was sunny, the wind being a light southerly. A frost of 2!< degrees was recorded there last night, and the weather this morning was overcast with a light north-east-erly breeze. In Dunedin it was cold and dull, a light south-easterly wind changing to the north-east during the afternoon. It was fair there this morning with a northerly breeze.
