SUCCESSFUL YEAR
WELLINGTON ATHLETIC CLUB
There was a good attendance last evening at the annual meeting of the Wellington Amateur Athletic Club. Mr. A. C. Kitto presided. Mr. Kitto said that the club had had a successful year from the social poi;it of view and on the fields. T. G. Crowe and K. Guy gained national honours in the New Zealand championships. During the year Mr. Murray resigned his position of coach, and Mr. C. Jenkins had been appointed in his place. The annual report stated that athletics were undergoing a serious setback at the present time, and the members were urged to do their utmost to place the club and the sport generally oti a higher plane. At the provincial championships the club retained the McVilly Shield with 89 points. Winners of the challenge cups were as follows:—D. J. Nathan Cup (field event). A. D. Adlum: P. J. Nathan cup (most points, 220 yds), A. Welply; L. B. Webster cup (special 220 yds), A. Welply; Bell cup (most points all events), A. D. Adlum; Duthie cup (most points 100 yds to 440 yds), A. Welply; Tancred cup (hurdles), J. Hamilton; Peat Pendant (most points women's events), Miss A. Gibes (22 points); Parson. Rose Bowl (field events). Miss J. Sharp (14 points); Tripp Cup (mile), A. H. Wilson. Points trophies were won by the following:—100 to 600 yds (senior), T. J. McCashin; 880 yds to 3 miles (senior), A. R. Wilson; field events,- A. D. Adlum; jumps, B. Carr; women (all \ events). Miss D. Day; junior (all events), A. R. Williams. Regret was expressed at the deaths of Messrs. P. J. Nathan, H. Rose, W. H. Bennett, and T. Coltman. It was suggested that lectures previously held should be continued. Officers were .elected as follows.'— Patron, the Governor-General, Lord Galway; president. Mr. A. C. Kitto; official starter, Mr. T. W. Leslie; deputy starter, Mr. J. T. Fleming; club captain, Mr. C. Jenkins; assistant club captain, Mr. A. R. Welply; secretary, Mr. R. Spence; treasurer, Mr. R. Wade; recording secretary, Mr. A. J. Hose; delegates to Wellington Centre, Messrs. A. J. Hose and J. Gasson; women's club captain, Miss J. Wilson; chaperon, Mrs. Lark; women's recording steward, Miss J. Sharp; selectors, men, Messrs. G. Hose, K. Spence, and C. Jenkins; women. Mr. A. C. Kitto and Miss Willson; executive committee, MLss J. Lark, Messrs. A. R. Wilson, A. J. Maekay, J. Hamilton, W. J. Sutherland; hon. auditor. Mr. W. H. Fisher.
