In his remarks with regard to the relation between motorist and pedestrian and the necessity for mutual consideration, best brought about by an educational campaign, the City Engineer, Mr. K. E. Luke, stated in his report to the City Council on Wednesday that an interesting practice is operating in Sydney, where certain senior boys of the public schools are supplied with a red flag—one red flag being allotted to each school—and during certain hours of the day thiese boys have the power to hold up traffic on public streets to enable school children to cross in the vicinity of schools. The personal contact with observance of traffic by the child at a receptive age must result in the development of the traffic sense which is so desirable.
