LABOURERS' PAY
.AGREEMENT MADE
Wages for builders', contractors', and general labourers throughout the Dominion, except in the northern and Nelson districts, were agreed upon in Conciliation Council yesterday at 2s 4d an hour, in accordance with the pronouncemnt of the Court of Arbitration. It was also agreed that additional hourly payments for special work should be the same as those set out in the present Wellington award. The new rates are to operate from yesterday for twelve months. A forty-hour five-day week was also decided upon. The Conciliation Commissioner,1 Mr. S. Ritchie, presided. Mr. P. M. Butler was advocate for the workers and Mr. W. J. Mountjoy for the employers.
