CYCLING TITLES

PROVINCIAL CONTESTS

TOMORROW'S ROAD RACING

Starting from the Petone Rowing Club shed, the Wellington provincial senior and junior road cycling championships are to be held tomorrow afternoon under the control of the Wellington Amateur Cycling Centre. Apart from the competition for individual honours there will be the teams' race for the Harrison Shield, the present holder of which is the Port Nicholson Club. Four riders comprise a team, and the shield is awarded to the team three of whose members have the best aggregate.

The senior race is to be over a course of 50 miles to a point on the Wellington side of the Rimutaka Hill and back to the starting point. The junior championship is to be held over a distance of 16 miles. Same idea of .the high standard of riding required to annex senior championship honours is to be gained from the times recorded over the course by the 1935 and 1936 champion, Ken. Wilson, who will not defend his title tomorrow. His time in 1935 was 2hr 20min 2sec, and last year, against.a strong northerly wind, 2hr 27min 28sec. The winner of the senior championship will be the holder of the Couchman Cup for a year. The race will be run under Olympic conditions; each competitor will ride a lone race, and will not be allowed to take pace or assistance from anybody. The first rider is to be started at 1 p.m. A sealed handicap will be held in conjunction with the championships. The following are the starting times. Senior.— N. McLeod. 1.0; C. Biggs* 1.2; J.
