IMMEDIATE COMPENSATION DEMANDED FOR
SHIPS AND LIVES
United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—CopyrlehL (Received September 7, 1 p.m.) LONDON, September 6. Just as the Powers were making headway towards the Mediterranean piracy conference, the Soviet dropped a bombshell by,presenting, a formal protest to Rome, alleging that units of the Italian Vavy were responsible for the sinking of the Russian ships Timiryazev and Blagov. The Note, which was presented to the Foreign Minister, Count Ciano, demands immediate compensation for lives lost and property damaged, also the punishment of the officers alleged to be responsible. ■
