MR. C. H. SYMONS

Mr. Charles Henry SymonS, wtto. died 'at Fbxton last week at the age'of'76, was a widely-known and highly-respect-ed pioneer settler in the Manawatu district. He was born at Whirokino in 1861, and was the eldest son of a wellknown pioneer family. ' He was educated privately, and after a period at flaxmilling in association '■ with his brother he tqok! over the Oturoa block at Whirokino and farmed it successfully on his own account.. On his retirement he settled in Foxton. In his youth Mr. Symons rowed with the champion Foxton crews at Wellington and Wanganui. He was an original member of the Foxton and Levin Racing Clubs, a member of the Foxton Beautifying Society, and a vice-presi-dent of the Foxton Horticultural Society. He also contributed largely to every deserving cause and institution in Foxton. In 1903 Mr. Symons married Miss C. E. Wallace, a member .of a pioneer Wellington family. Mrs. I Symons died in 1926, and in 1929 Mr. Symons married Miss A. M. Williams, a daughter of an early Marlborough settler, who survives him. Mr. Walter Symons (Foxton) is a brother, and there are six sisters, Mesdames M. Collins (Hastings), A. J. and W. Toogood (Wellington), C. Robinson, and M. Frankland (Foxton), and Miss Emily Symons (Wellington). ' ■ ■"■ " ■"
