The • prisoner,- • a burglar named Olaf Thorsen, had escaped by forcing open the door of his cell. lit vain the police searched the district. There was no trace qf him, and they were reduced to waiting to see if he would keep his word and return. The hours went by and nothing happened. Then, towards the end" of the afternoon of the promised day, the prison gate bell rang—and there was Olaf Thorsen waiting outside, day of "freedom" over.
