BRITISH SAVINGS BANK DEPOSITS.
Remarkable figures showing the growth of the savings of the small man" were1 given by Sir Walter Womersley, the Assistant PostmasterGeneral, speaking at Hexham, Northumberland, recently. . He revealed, that the total savings of the nation, including the Savings Bank and National Sayings Certificates, had reached almost £1,200,000,000. Since the beginning of this year'the sum invested in the Post Office Savings Bank alone had increased by £23,000,000. It now dealt with 140,000 transactions each day for its' 10,450,000 depositors, and had a total balance of £450,000,000.
