PROGRESS REPORTS

MANAGER TO GO. ABROAD

The monthly meeting of the directors of the New Zealand Centennial Exhibition Company took ', place yesterday morning. The Mayor (Ivlr. T. C. A. Hislop) presided. It was reported that invitations had been issued to provincial asking for their co-operation and help and suggesting that provincial committees be established to advance the interests of the Exhibition. It was further reported that a letter had been addressed to the High Commissioner in London inviting him to set up a London committee and suggesting that former Governors-General and prominent New Zealanders in London be invited to join it. A report from the women's section committee showed that this section is now actively functioning. The executive committee was set.up and invitations had been issued to various women's associations asking representatives to join the sub-committees. It was reported that a sub-publicity committee has been actively engaged in the preparation of schemes for giving full publicity to the enterprise. The report is-nearly completed. It is expected that it will be submitted at the next board meeting.

In view of the. importance of securing official representation from Governments oversea it was decided that a visit should be paid by Mr. C. P. Hainsworth, general manager, to the following countries:—U.S.A., Canada, England and Scotland, France and Australia. The directors recognise the importance of securing good representations from other countries, and, further, they are desirous of securing the most up-to-date and attractive devices for the amusement park, also musical attractions' in the nature of a famous military band. It was felt that a visit oversea by the general manager was essential to secure the best offering' in these important branches, of the work.
