"A SERIOUS VIEW"
■ _ ; «. _• WAR IN THE EAST JAPAN'S ATTITUDE SINGAPORE BASE I (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day.\ "I discovered that the Singapore base is far more advanced than people in New Zealand have been informed," said Mr. Frank Milner, C.M.G., on his return from a lecturing tour of Australia. It was thought in well-inform-ed circles in Australia that in nine months the Singapore Base would be equipped to carry out the most extensive docking and repairs required by the British Fleet. The air base at Seletar, close to .Singapore, had' been pushed on at a tremendous pace, and oil reserves, which are stored in 120 big tanks, amounted to millions of tons. "A very serious view is being taken by leaders of thought in Australia of the present situation in the East," said Mr. Milner, "and there is a feeling that it is not just a sporadic outburst but another instalment long premeditated by Japan to obtain pan-Asiatic domination."
