OVERCAST WEATHER
MIST AND RAIN AT TIMES
Forecast for Wellington:— Moderate to fresh southerly wind, changing to northerly by tomorrow and then increaflnj. Weather cloudy to overcast with occasional mist and rain. The general forecast issued at noon today for the Dominion as a whole is for northerly winds north of Kawhia and East Cape and on the West Coast of the South Island; elsewhere southerlies at first, but northerlies soon setting in generally, force strong at.places between Cook Strait, and East .Cape, and otherwise moderate, but later increasing. The weather will be cloudy to overcast with much mist and fog in places; scattered rain in most districts and more general rain is probable within the next day or two. Temperatures wiil become milder. Although pressure is uniform over the Dominion, its distribution is rather complex. An anticyclone has been passing to the north and a slight one to the south of New Zealand, while pressures are low and conditions disturbed over the greater part of the Tasman Sea, and especially so in the south-west portion, where an intense depression has been operating. A disturbance is also centred at present near the Chatham Islands. Winds have been light to moderate and variable, with southerlies now predominating, and the weather has been changeable. Cloudy, to overcast skies have ruled, however, and in most districts scattered light rains have fallen occasionally. In Auckland yesterday the weather was overcast with a moderate southerly breeze. Rain fell during the night, and this morning light rain was still falling; there was a light north-north-east breeze. The rainfall was 22 points. At Wellington for most of the day* it was' cloudy, but the sun broke through occasionally, and conditions were pleasant with a gentle southerly breeze. Some rain "fell in the night, and heavier rain in the early hours of this morning. The total rainfall was 18 points, and the sunshine yesterday was 3.6 hours. , Christchurch yesterday experienced dull and misty weather, and occasional passing showers accompanying a southwesterly breeze. At 9 a.m. today the weather was Qloudy with a light southwesterly. There were three points of rain. There was occasional sunshine in Dunedin, but the weather was mostly overcast with little wind. This morning was cloudy with a gentle southwesterly. - •■
