BIBLE SOCIETY

FAREWELL PARTY

Mrs. H. D. Vickery entertained the officers and collectors of the Rose-rieath-Oriental Bay branch of the Bible Society, at her home, "Grasmere," Roseneath, recently, the occasion being to bid farewell to Mrs. W. W. Bird, who is leaving the district.

Mrs. Vickery's pianoforte items were much appreciated, as were songs by Mrs. Colebrook and Miss Low.

Mrs. A. M. Lewis, president of the branch, presented Mrs. Bird with a handsome Crown Devon vase and a bouquet suited in colour to the vase, and gave an interesting account of Mrs. Bird's work, at Roseneath. Mrs. David Calder also referred to the invaluable service rendered by Mrs. Bird to the orphanage work of the Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Porter also mentioned the record' of Mrs. Bird, as vice-president, secretary, and collector for the branch. Mrs. Bird suitably replied.

The hostess, assisted by her daughter, entertained all to a dainty afternoon tea, and was warmly thanked for her hospitality. Over the teacups a pleasant time was spent in conversation.
