RUGBY LEAGUE

BOARD OF CONTROL MEETS

The Wellington Rugby League Board of Control at a meeting this week granted permission to the Petone Club to travel to Taranaki and play -Western Suburbs at New Plymouth on Saturday, September 11. Mr. L. F. Wisnisky will travel as manager. It was decided to. support the proposal put forward by the New Zealnad Rugby League Council for an intensive inter-provincial competition next year. In the event of the Petone senior and Randwick reserve grade teams winning their matches on Saturday, the Walmsley Shield and Buckland Cup competitions will be declared closed and the knock-out competition will be started.

REFEREES' ASSOCIATION.

A special meeting of the Wellington Rugby League referees was held last evening. The referees had been previously under the control of the Wellington Rugby League Board of Control, but decided to form an association and become an independent body. A letter from the New Zealand Rugby League Referees' Association stated that affiliation would be granted and a Wellington delegate on the national association welcomed. . The meeting was presided over by Mr. W. T. Holland, chairman of the Board of Control, and Mr. E. J. Elliott, secretary, was also present representing the board. The election of officers resulted:—President, Mr. G. Bell; vice-presi-dent, Mr. M. O'Grady; secretary-treas-urer, Mr. J. Petterson; executive committee, Messrs. L. Davies, A. McCaskill, J. Findlay. Mr. S. Billman (Auckland) was elected the Wellington delegate on the New Zealand Rugby League Referees' Association. SATURDAY'S FIXTURES. Following are the fixtures for Saturday:—

Senior grade.—Petone v. Central, Newtown Park, 3 p.m., Mr. Petterson; St. George v. Newtown, Winter Showground, 3 p.m., Mr. McCaskill; Randwick, a bye. ... ; Reserve grade.—Petone v. Eastern Suburbs, Newtown Park, 1.30 p.m., Mr. G. Bell; Randwick v. Newtown, Winter Showgrounds, 1.45 p.m., Mr. •L. Davies; St. George, a bye.
