HIGHLIGHTS AT RECENT ■ MEETINGS
MANCHESTER U-MIT ODDFELLOWS. The following lodges in the past week have held meetings:—Newtown, Kilbirnie, Petqne, Sis: Wallis; Victoria Diamond (Levin), Combination (Johnsonyille). Rose of Sharon (Upper Hutt), Antipodean, and Rose of the Valley Lodges. Two candidates were initiated in the period under review. • Indoor bowling is now very popular: amongst the lodges, and each lodge has one or more teams competing in different tournaments. ICilbirnie lodge members' defeated Petone in one of the contests. Petone A •defeated Antipodean ■in a recent match, and the latter later defeated Kilbirnie. . '- '■■■•:.. Newtown arid Kilbirnie lodge members met recently in the Telford "500" Cup competition, the;latter, lodge winning by 19 games to 8: , Victoria Diamond Lodge (.Levin) recently held -a highly successful celebration, of its fortieth anniversary. Over; a hundred attended a banquet, among whom were the Mayof.and the member of Parliament for the district. Biro." Guihah, Noble Grand of Victoria Diamond Lodge, presided. Bro. Harris proposed.the toast of the Unity i;0:0.F.," arid Brb. J. L. Stewart, District, Grand Master, responded, ;furnishing ,^ some . illuiiiinatins! information1 relative' to th«; order in general. Bro. E. W. Guise, District Secretary, proposed "Loyal Victoria Diamond Lodge." Amongst the congratulatory speeches, were messages ,from representatives of various kindred societies operating in the district, and also from members from ; the Foxion Lodge who; were, .present in numbers. '■' '■ Several. Manchester Unity lodges have made ; donations to the Christmas funds; being' raised to ;-assist leper patients on Makogai Island. . Bro. .George Astridge, of Levin, has completed sixty years of service as fen Oddfellow. ■, He -recently presented j a framed photograph of himself to Victoria Diamond Lodge, of which he hns been a-member for a, great number of;years. ■:, '■• . ■...-, .'.-." Last week he visited Rose of Wellington .'Rebekah Lodge, handing on the greetings of Wynyard, • Alpha, ?and Mizpah Lodges. Flag "500" is quite frequently;played among members of the order. The most decent was at Rose of Wellington Rebekah Lodge, when the winners were Sis. Hooper, Merrie, and Parry. ORDER OF FORESTERS. Courts Sir William Jervois arid Sir George Grey have both held t meetings in the last week, the attendances being quite good. ' '■•■■.. ;.■;,' ■■■'..* -, Bro. H;; M.. Lindsay, of Court Sir William Jeryois,, was presented at the last meeting with a P.C.R. neck ribbon and framed emblem in appreciation- of his services to the Court." ■ . .. ; Court, Sir- George Grey passed accounts totalling £100 at the recent meeting, most of this amount^ going, to sickmembers. . ': ■'■'"■* ■ A team to compete in the President's Shield indoor bowling tournament has been entered by Court Sir George Grey. A committee consisting,of Bros. A. V. Burnette; J. J., Kean, and G. W. Key, sen., has been set up to write the history of' Court Sir "George' Grey. Court Sir' George Grey has presented a number of orders for groceries to the value of £ 1 to sick. members. . Bro.. Tuotiy,.. of Court Sir George Grey, has donated a prize to the brother proposing 'the most new members. Bro. i.Tuohy recently, met with an accident on the railway but is making a satisfactory recovery, • ;
