MASKED BALL
(From "The Post's" Representative.) Over two hundred'dancers ■assembled on Wednesday night for the Masked Ball held by the Railway Apprentices' Club- in their social hall. Black dominoes greeted the guests at the entrance, and carnival was abroad in every corner of the ball-room, jn poke bonnet of the gay nineties, or miniature pork pie hat'of the latest fashion. Viking and pierrot-capped revellers saluted one another under' the sunsetcoloured streamers which fell in great showers from the suspended , lights, while orange-shaded standard lamps and festoons of yellow Chinese lanterns along the walls carried warmth and colour to every part. Two Monte Carlo dances, a "Lucky Spot" prize, and an ingenious numbered balloon competition with gay music from the band kept interest centred on the floor, where Mr. Ivan Thompson made a capable M.C. Mr. W. D. Burton (manager of the Railway Workshops) and Mrs. Burton were the guests of the committee, which consisted of Messrs. G. Posselt (secretary), G. Seymour (treasurer), J. Boddy, J. Toomath were the guests of honour at a dance given by the Lower Hutt Returned Soldiers' Association. Mr. Toomath, who is a foundation member of toe Lower Hutt branch, has been closely associated with its" activities for the past twelve years and held office as secretary for a considerable time. He, is leaving shortly to take up residence in Christchurch, and his many friends among the executive and' members of the association took this opportunity; to offer their good wishes for the future, and' to present Mr. and: Mrs. Toomath with' a silver salver. The presentation was made by Mr. A. E, Pattinson, president, amid rounds of applause from a large and appreciative gathering, including the full committee, Messrs. P. McNicol (social secretary), Edwards (vice-president), Parxarit (secretary*, .Wilton,, Garrett. Berry, Unsworth, Aririear, '■ ■ Downing, O'Meara? Poad, Burdan, and Akers. Ord were hosts on Thursday night' to over a hundred young people at a dance given for their son, Mr. Edward: Ord, in the social hall of tlie Lower Hutt Railway Workshops. In the wide hall brilliant streamers and coloured lanterns formed the decorations, while the supper-room, where a sit-down supper of delicious home-made fare was provided, was fragrant with the scent of masses of spring flowers. Mrs. Ord wore black and white figured marocain, and was assisted by her daughter, Miss Dorothy Ord (wearing primrose floral taffetas). Among the guests were Mr. and Mrs. W. Ord, Mr. and Mrs. H.
