A TENNIS CLUB LEASE

«?ir—Although I have no knowledge of the correspondent's identity who wrote under the nom-de-plume ofFair-plaV"Tis-very obvious that hidden behind "M.A.8." is the mouthpiece of fhe Salamanca Tennis Club. I consider at the present moment that.it is very tactless of "M.A.8." to discuss what is and what is not, fair play. It is not yet opportune for me to give my views on fair play in regard to the matter under discussion, but when the council's final decision is arrived at, I will possibly have some/interesting comments to make. Does not ''M.A.8." err rather badly when he states that the Salamanca Club is willing to pay any increase in rental that the council thinks reasonable? Surely this is equal to asking the council to allow their tender to be altered to a higher amount in order to compare more favourably with the tender of the Eng-lish-speaking Union. I ask you, is that fair play? There is one question which, I am sure, is in the minds of all the sanethinking public who have interested themselves in this discussion, and that. is— w hy did the council call for ten-1 ders when seemingly they had no intention of considering any other than that of the Salamanca Tennis Club?
