BOXING CHAMPIONSHIPS.
The Wellington amateur boxing championships will be staged at the Town Hall on Wednesday and Thursday nights. Sufficient entries for over fifty contests have been secured and, with the first-class talent available, some excellent boxing should be witnessed The contestants will be very keen to.show their best form, as the winners in the various classes will all have an excellent chance of representing Wellington at the Dominion amateur championships sX Greymouth in September and also going to Sydney next year. Amateur boxing has been very strong in Wellington during the past few years and a number of clubs are doing brisk business in training boys at the present time. The great success which has attended the professional programmes presented this season has been largely due to the science and vigour" displayed in the amateur preliminaries and an all-amateur night will make a strong appeal. The fine sportsmanship and constant action by which amateur bouts are always marked, make them very popular. Particulars are advertised in this issue.
