BAPTIST CHURCH

"DEEPER LIFE CRUSADE"

The services in connection with the "Deeper Life Crusade," being held in the Island Bay Baptist Church, were continued yesterday with three very well-attended services. A youth rally was held in the afternoon ■at which the missioner, the-Rev. C. B; Bosgis, delivered an address entitled "My Body and its Master." Speaking from the text "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God." The church was crowded for the evening service, the subject, being "The Return to Reh'gion." The text was Isaiah 44:22, "Return unto me for I have redeemed thee." Mr. Boggis first made reference to the Archbishop of Canterbury's appeal for a return to religion in the nation issued at the beginning of 1937. He said the Bible represents religion as essentially as a going back to God. There had been a repudiation of God in New Zealand as well as in. Russia. People sometimes asked whether religion was needed in order to be good, but those who asked such a question overlooked the fact that thousands were living on inherited spiritual capital. They were living hy standards and principles which Christianity had created and sustained Many would not own their indebtedness to the Christian faith and yet gathered to themselves the benefits from it. An anthem was sung by a large choir under the conductorship of Mr. C. J. Enright. A solo was sung by Mrs. J. Ewen and the male quartet sang "Steal Away to Jesus." The services will be continued i nightly (with tha exception of Fri? j '-■vi until r.ncl i:;c*;;-.i;ng Sunday next.
