ANNUAL MEETINGS

•The third annual meeting of the Ngaio branch of the League of Mother; showed that the interest of member: was even greater than in previous years. Mrs. Cummings presided, anc the report and balance-sheet submit ted showed that the membership had increased, and that the finances were satisfactory. Sincere regret was expressed at the resignation of Mrs. Simpson (secretary), and eulogistic references were | made to her pioneer work. She was presented with a crystal vase and posy. The following officers were elected: Hon. president, Mrs. Rollings; president, i Mrs. Cummings; vice-presidents, Mesdames W. H. Clark and Bringans; | secretary, Mrs. Wakelin; treasurer, Mrs, ' Scadden; committee, Mesdames Barnes, Hills, . Kendall, Johnsen, E. Hicks, Easther, Irving, Radcliffe, Turksma, Wilman, and Mattingley; pianist, Mrs. Goatham.1 Demonstrations of pewter and brass work followed by home nursing hints, were given. Mrs. Wilman' sang two solos, and a_fternoon tea was served. ' 1 ELECTIONS AT EASTBOUBNEi The annual meeting of the Eastbourne branch of the League of Mothers was held in the Masonic Hall recently. The acting president, Mrs. Shearer, expressed regret at the ,ill- ' ness of the president (Mrs. Wise), and a box of flowers was sent from*- the members. Her resignation' as president for the ensuing year was accepted with deep regret. . The report and balance-sheet for the ■year were read and adopted. The following officers were elected: President, Mrs. Shearer; vice-presi-dents, Mesdames Mather, Varriey, Stewart, and Wise; secretary, Mrs. Miller; treasurer, Mrs. Hill; card secretary, Mrs. J.,Battersbyi'magazine secretary, .Mrs. Gwilliam; creche convener, Miss Finlayson; official pianist, Miss Wixon; hon. auditor, Mr. Gordon Berry; committee, Mesdames Battersby, Bowie, Carroll, Hill, Hoi way, Gibbons, Greenwood, Martin, Roberts, Thompson,- Wilkinson, WUcox, and Miss Finlayson. The thought for the day given by Mrs. Carroll was, "Wherever there.is a human -being, there is an opportunity for a kindness.'.' Two delightful songs were given by Miss Bowie. '■ .Mrs. Rollings gave an .interesting talk on "The .Little Palace Beautiful," which was. much appreciated. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the speaker, who was presented with a box of lovely flowers. Afternoon tea was served. WADESTOWN ACTIVITIES. A large gathering of members attended the annual meeting of the Wadestown branch of the League of Mothers, which was held last-week. The hall 'looked very attractive- with its well-decorated stage. Mrs. Rollett (president) welcomed visitors from the Petone and Lower Hutt branches. An account of the activities of the branch during the past year was read and the election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mrs. Rollett; vicqpresidents, Mesdames Turner. ,and McGowari; honorary secretary, Mrs. Keswick; magazine secretary, Mrs. Mace;- tea conveners, Mesdames Allison and Archer; pianists, Mesdames Eames and Bould; honorary treasurer, Mrs. Len Styles; committee,' Mesdames ■ Liggins, D. Styles, Staples, Jones, Cowie, Drury, Beveridge, Ferguson, McArthur, Battersby, Pringle, McKay, and Miss Lomas. . Beautiful bouquets of.daffodils were presented to Mesdames .Rollett, Turner, and Keswick in appreciation of services rendered the branch. An amusing play entitled "A Marriage Has Been Disarranged," was read by Mesdames Cowie, Mace, Brown, 'Riseborough, Heighway, Beveridge, Cooper, and Keswick. Two duets, "Rendezvous" . and "Who Is Sylvia?" were sung by Mesdames Hiseborough and Brown, while the choir sang "To a Wild Rose" and "Shepherd's Lullaby," Afternoon tea and the singing of the National Anthem brought the meeting to a close. MIEAMAR MEETING. The Miramar branch of the League of Mothers held its annual meeting recently in the Methodist Hall. Mrs. Wall presided over an excellent attendance of members and visitors. The annual report, presented by the secretary, proved that the. year had been a most successful one. The treasurer presented a very satisfactory financial statement. The election of other officers resulted as follows:^-President, Mrs. A. L. Wall; vice-president, Mrs. Fulton; secretary, Mrs. Macßean; magazine secretary. Mrs. Austin; tresaurer, Mrs. Fulton; committee, Mesdames Wanden, Desmond, Hill, Arbuckle, Fevre, Macdonald, McNally, Pritchard, Bennett, Rashbrooke, Fulton, Disney, and Walsh. Two duets, "Somewhere a Voice is Calling" and "Come, Sing to Me," were delightfully sung by Mrs. Ody and MissL. Beere, with Mrs. Bodmin as accompanist A recitation by. Miss Mary Martin, "The Scottish Martyrs," was much appreciated- ' Afternoon tea was served, after which members joined in an amusing "parcel" competition. ISLAND BAY-BERHAMPORE. A very happy afternoon was spent by members and friends of the Island Bay-Berhampore branch of the League ■of Mothers, at the annual meeting held recently. ( A splendid report for the year was read by the secretary, Miss Craig, to whom tribute was paid for all that she had done for the branch. Mrs. Williamson, treasurer, read the balancesheet, which proved to be very satisfactory. Thanks were extended to the retiring committee and a welcome given to the new. The Hataitai Glee Club, conducted by Mrs.-Mostyn, eqtertained with several part-songs, after which a comedy in one act entitled "The Play Girl," produced by Mrs. Wakelin, caused much amusement. Afternoon tea was served. MOERA MOTHERS. ' The annual meeting of the Moera branch of the League of Mothers was held on Tuesday afternoon. The hall looked very attractive with the bright sunshine lighting up the decorations of yellow spring flowers and shrubs arranged on the stage, ant3- on' tables covered with embroidered covers of blue and gold, the branch's colours. There was a large attendance of members. Mrs. F. S. McLean presiding-. A summary of the year's work was given in the annual report, and appreciation was expressed of the interesting programmes provided throughout the year, and of the consistently good .Work: done by the committee. The balance-sheet showed a credit. The branch has a membership of 130. The following officers were elected:—President. Mrs. E. Ashforth: secretary, Mrs. Marshall: treasurer, Mrs. Sadler; vicepresidents, Mesdames Fry, McKenzie, Nash, Robertson, and Studholme; committee, Mesdames Piercy, Weddekind, Jamie, Hayton, Swift, Beasley, McCulloch, Cropp, Milsom. Harris. Davis. Abbott, Bennett, Tyrell, Hoare, and Mountstephens. Mrs. ' Kersley (provincial president), spoke on tha ideals of the League of Mothers. She sail marriage was a career, the highest one, and its success should be, the constant and unfaltering aim of all women.' With . marriage the home began. The home was the birthplace '.

In this age of hurry and speed therp was need for the restoration of quist family life, a weakened home meaning a weakened nation, Children's characters were moulded by loving, teaching, and Royalty in the home. Parents thus created—not pictures or statues to be admired—but living portraits. Mrs. Ashforth (president), thanked Mrs. Kersley for her address, and bade farewell to Mrs. F. McLean, who is leaving the district to reside in Karori. Mrs. McLean was accorded hearty thanks for her valuable work as president for the ~past two years, and presented with a parting gift, as. the choir sang the Maori farewell. Songs were also given by Mrs. Logic and two numbers were rendered by the choir.
