FOX VERSUS MAN
That the fox can run faster than man was revealed recently when C. Cottam, of the Federal Bureau of Biological Survey (U.S.A.) used his motor-car speedometer to time the speed of a fox on a South Carolina highway. The fox attained a speed of Uventy-six miles an hour, covering the first 100 yards in less than eight seconds, and gradually slowing to a speed of twenty-one miles an hour at the end of a half-mile. Man's fastest pace for the 100-yard distance is between nine and ten seconds.
