LONDON CONFERENCE

On his return from a trip to London, the Director-General of the Post and Telegraph Department, Mr. G. McNamara, arrived at1 Auckland by the Mataroa on Saturday and left for Wellington by the afternoon express. Mr. McNamara was sent to England to represent New Zealand at the conference of the administrative heads of postal -departments of principal7 Empire countries, held for the purpose of reviewing the Imperial communication system carried on by Cable and Wireless, Ltd. The proceedings were carried on as a preliminary to the Imperial Conference. At their conclusion Mr. McNamara was attached to the official staff of the Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance (the Hon. W. Nash) for the duration of the conference.
Asked if he could give any information on the cable and wireless conference, Mr. McNamara said its recommendations had been submitted to the various Governments concerned for ratification, and in the meantime were confidential. He believed that a full statement regarding them would be issued in due course.
