RESCUED FROM SEA
LONG FIGHT WITH TIDE
BOYS' DINGHY FOUNDERS
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
AUCKLAND, August 15.
Rescued by the father of one and by a passing motorist after they had been battling against a strong outgoing tide for almost an h.our, two messengers employed at the Thames Post Office—P. E. Thorburn, aged 17, and W. R. Davis, aged 16—had a narrow escape from drowning in the sea about a mile on the Thames side of Tapu this afternoon. They were taken to the Thames Hospital in an unconscious condition, suffering from severe exhaustion.
The boys had been fishing from a dinghy which had not been used for some time, and when it was a considerable distance from the shore at Waiomio it started to leak and foundered under them, throwing them into the sea. The rescuers swam out and secured the boys just in time.
