TALKING HIGHWAYS
• "Talking highways" that would warn the motorist when he drives too near the ■ edge of the pavement are suggested by engineers at the University of Minnesota (U.S.A.) Highway Research Department. They said an iron pavement could be constructed 'that would emit a pleasant hum when a car was properly driven, and give a screech when it is close to the edge.
