DICKENS FELLOWSHIP

A meeting of the Dickens Fellowship was held last week in Charming I Hall, when Mr. W. D. Charlton pre•j sided. ■ A highly entertaining programme, : arranged by Mrs. L. Johnston, was :, presented, the chief feature being the • sketches from "Oliver Twist," the first of- a series of readings and study book for the ensuing year. Mrs. Johnston gave a brief synopsis of the H first four chapters, and descriptive ■readings, given by Miss Maisie Johnfston, Mrs. Galloway, and Mrs. Theo. i Hills, were much enjoyed. Miss Betty "i Manley was warmly applauded for her .'■ character study of "Jenny Wrep" and "i "Dolly Varden." A sketch in cbstume, ■j"Mrs. Snagsby's Teaparty," from : "Bleak House," given by the Misses -' S. and C. Walker, K. Campbell, Denise (and Margaret Garner, was greatly ap[preciated, as also was the characterisa•jition of Mademoiselle Hortense by Mrs. "j£)ruttenden. ' ?! Violin solos were delightfully given •fby Mr. Tasker, and vocal items by Mr. ;(E. Cowie, both being heartily encored. |!The accompanists were Mrs. Price and •/Jtfrs.
