HUNGJAO MURDER

THOROUGH INQUIRY

JAPANESE VERSION \

(United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.)

TOKIO, August 10.

The Japanese Admiralty takes £ serious view of the incident at Hungjao, where Chinese sentries fired on Japanese officers who refused to stop when challenged, killing one of them.

The incident is being thoroughly investigated, and adequate measures are being taken to deal with the situation arising from it.

(Received August 11, noon.)

SHANGHAI, August 10.

The Japanese version of the Hungjao murder is that Lieutenant Isao Ohyama was being driven along Monument Road when the Chinese Peace Preservation Corps shot him dead, firing from all sides.

The fate of the driver, a seaman, Yozo Saito, is unknown.

The Chinese allege that lieutenant Ohyama defied the prohibition to en-' ter the aerodrome and shot down a sentry, whereupon the Chinese fired in self-defence, but this is stated to be untrue. ~ •
