FAIR AND MILD

SPRING-LIKE WEATHER

Special forecast for Wellington:— Light to moderate and variable winds, with northcrlies prevailing tomorrow. Weather fair and mild.

The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today for the ensuing twenty-four hours, is for light to moderate and variable winds. South-easterlies will predominate at first over, the northern halt of the North Island, but winds there will gradually tend north, and elsewhere northerlies will prevail and gradually freshen. Considerable cloud is probable in the South Island, but otherwise the weather will be fair to fine at first, ■ although rain will gradually develop in Westland and in the far south. Temperatures will be mild. Barometers this morning were very high, exceeding in some places 30.5 inches, owing to the fact that an intense and extensive anticyclone now lies centrally over the Dominion. Pleasant spring-like weather has continued to prevail generally, but a few isolated local light showers have occurred on the East Coast and in the extreme south. Winds have been mainly light, many places reporting calms, and their direction has Jjgen rather variable. Auckland had fine and sunny weather yesterday, with a light southwesterly breeze. Last night was foggy, and this morning it was calm and fine. The day in Wellington was mostly overcast, but it was pleasant, 2.7 hours of bright sunshine being recorded. A gentle southerly breeze prevailed. Christchurch had a fair day, although for the most part it was cloudy, winds being light and variable. At 8.30 a.m. today it was overcast and showery. Dunedin enjoyed calm, mild, andj sunny conditions, but the weather this morning was cloudy with a gentle northerly breeze.
