"A BURNING QUESTION"
(To the Editor.) Sir, —Under the above caption a correspondent in your columns asks two questions, viz., "Are we'short of coal in New Zealand? If not, why are we compelled to buy Australian (Newcastle) coal and at .4s per cwt?" May I ask your correspondent why he is so vague as to the yards he applied at. If "One-time Labour" was at any time a supporter of the Labour Party (which I very much doubt) he should have been aware that if he desired to order State coal he could have done so by ringing up the State Coal Department or by ordering through any of the department's numerous agencies. Personally, I have experienced no difficulty in having my order delivered by the department. I had two hundredweight today, and what is more to the point it did not cost 3s 6d*per hundredweight. According to the docket received with the order .(which I am prepared to let your correspondent peruse) the price was 3s 2d per 'cwt. I would like to suggest to "One-time Labour" that he «hould "cut out" the propaganda against the Labour Government, ring up or apply to the State Coal Department for a supply of coal, then he would be in a position to correctly inform your numerous readers on the question on which he has sought to mislead them. —I am, etc., . ■ ■
