RUGBY UNION MEETING
The official "gate" for last Saturday's Kugby fixture between Wellington and the Springboks was £3878 4s and th,e official attendance slightly over 27,000, according to a repott presented to the weekly meeting of the Wellington Rugby Union last night. Mr. J. N. Millard presided. ' Reviewing the day, Mr. Millard said he desired especially to congratulate the officers in charge of traffic, and the police for their control of the crowdsin the ground. In both phases orderliness had been remarkably well preserved. It- was also decided to congratulate che ladies', committee controlling the official cabaret on the night of the match. ■ , .. A request by the Otago Rugby Union ; for tb,e appointment of a suitable re- i feree for the Wellington-Otago representative match was referred to the Referees' Appointment Board. It was decided to hold "Old Representatives' Day" on the day of the match against Otago on August 28. The union's president, Mr. J. Pren« deville, and the chairman, Mr.; J. N. Millard, were appointed to represent the union at a meeting convened by the Minister of Internal Affairs for a further discussion, on the National Council of Sports proposal.
