The'most popular-woman lrr Manchukup today is Madame Minako Nagata, a 42-year-old Japanese woman, whose, work for the soldiers'has made her the idol'of the army. Every where in the country she is known as the "mother of 16,000 soldiers," for whom she collects sacks of food, fruit, and wsrm clothing, and: takes them herself to the troops, even when they are stationed in far-ofl desolate regions in the north of the country, where the thermometer registers many degrees below freezing point. . Having distributed her offerings, she then entertains the men by singing and dancing to them.
