WELLINGTON CASES

Offences against the traffic regulations were dealt with today in the Magistrate's Court by Mr. W. F. S tilwell, S.M.: Mr. A. R: Cooper appeared for the City Council. Pleading guilty to riding .a motorcycle on the Hutt Road at a speed that might have been dangerous (55 m.p.h.), Robert Mead was lined £3, and his licence was ordered to be cancelled for three months and endorsed.

A fine of £2 and costs was imposed on Dr. Lyndon Basting for exceeding the speed limit in the Kilbirnie Tunnel. His speed was estimated at over 30 m.p.h. . .

Charged with driving a motor-car between Kaiwarra and the overhead bridge on the Hutt Road at speeds of 50 and 45 miles an hour, James Fleming was fined £3 and his licence was ordered to be endorsed and cancelled for three months. '

For failing to obtain a heavy traffic licence and for overloading an omnibus,. Harold Morgan was convicted and ordered to pay costs and fined £5 and costs respectively.

Herbert Priddle was fined 30s and costs for driving at; a checked speed of 41 miles an hour on Adelaide Road

Charged with overloading a motorlorry, with operating a lorry on which the weight licensed was not indicated, and with using obscene language, Reginald Ernest Frederick Miles wrote to the Court admitting- the first two charges. He was fined £2 and costs on' the" first, charge, £1; and costs on the second,- and £2 and costs, in default seven days' imprisonment, on the third. ....

Edward Abbott Wallace was fined 30s and costs for exceeding 30 miles an hour along, Jervois Quay. His checked speed was 40 m.p.h.

Driving a car through the Mount Victoria Tunnel at a speed estimated at between 45 and 50 miles an hour, cost Raymond Wright £5 and costs.

Ormond Connor, George Newson, and Frank Thompson were each con j victed and discharged for failing, to give way to a pedestrian on an authorised pedestrian crossing.
