VETERANS' RAIL CONCESSIONS
According to a statement made by Mr. C. M. Ritzema CHutt Valley) to the annual conference of the South African War Veterans' Association of New Zealand today, the Minister of Railways (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan) is in favour of restoring the free rail pass to ex-soldiers travelling to the Veterans' Home at Auckland. This concession had been discontinued by Ihe late Government as a measure of economy, Mr. Ritzema said, but when he approached the Minister with a request for assistance for a Hutt Valley case it was granted, and the Minister suggested that the association should pass a remit asking for the restoration of (he r.r- session. He moved a remit accordingly.
Mr. J. H. E. Tilling, secretary of the association, said that he had secured railway transport.for several cases by applying to the War Funds Council. ■
The remit was carried.
