Last Monday evening the Upper Hutt Borough Council met in committee property owners whose land adjoins the Hutt River, and- discussed protection work. At a meeting last evening the Mayor (Mr. A. J. McCurdy) said that a deputation from the district had waited on the unemployment authorities with a view to seeing if some of the unemployed, who were being subsidised under the new scheme, could be put on to river protection .work. The deputation was told that a major plan was being formulated, and would be released in the near future. In the meantime a request for ■. immediate work in the vicinity of the Waiwetu Golf Club's links at Whakatiki was being considered,'and it was likely that something would be done.
