PLAYING TIME
CURTAILING SPELLS
Play- in the match between the Springboks and the combined King Country-Waikato-Thames Valley team at Hamilton was restricted to two spells of thirty-five minutes each. There was a request by the South Africans for the shorter spells, which are quite a 'usual thing in their country, but the main reason for shortening the pl!rsfcg lime in this case was on account of the difficulty experienced in fielding a fit fifteen. . The matter was raised officially, and when put to C. A. Crossman, the combined team's captain, he agreed to meet the Springboks' request. After the match P. J. Nel, the South. African captain, paid a special tribute to the : combined team's captain for his action in agreeing to the thirty-five minute spells, and at the dinner-Mr. P. W. Day, the touring team's manager, also expressed appreciation of the gesture by Crossman.
