SOCIETY OF MAGICIANS
It is not generally known that there exists in Wellington a society, whose members are all devotees'/of the ancient art of magic, and who meet regularly to exchange new ideas and notions concerning their art.1 The annual meeting of the "Wellington Society of Magicians, held last Wednesday, shows that not only docs such v body exist, but also that it has done a great deal to assist charitable causes during the four progressive years of "its existence. The secretary-treasurer, . Mr. R. Sproule, in presenting the annual report and balance-sheet to a large gathering of magicians, summed up the society's activities, during' the past year, a highly satisfactory financial position being disclosed. Two ladies' nights were held during the year, when members' wives and their friends were privileged to observe at close quarters the mysterious operations darkly hinted at by the magicians. Reference was made to the loss sustained by the society by. the death of Mr. H. H, Seaton. whose, restrained humour and unassuming" mariner both on and off the stage won him the respect and admiration of all members. Mr. H. Liardet, who was re-elected president, was made a life member in view of his invaluable services to the society, and Mr. R. Sproule was again re-elected secretary-treasurer. Other officers were elected as follows: —Vice-president, Mr. C. H. McGill; hon. auditor; Mr. W. J. Arcus; hon. librarian. Mr. H. Douglas Saunders: nan. reporter, Mr. Ronald L. Meek; committee, Messrs. Perry, Dover. Forrest, Leith, Willard, and ex dfllcio members.
