• It is anticipated that the position will be sufficiently advanced by the end of this month to enable a, ballot to be held to decide who shall occupy the first batch of houses erected at Miramar, Hutt, and Johnsonvillc under the State's housing scheme. It was learned today that inquiries made by the Government into the bona fides of the applications for these homes -is practically complete. It has been in progress since the applications closed on June 8. A total of 2300 applications have been received by the State Advances Department, and the number of houses available in the rst ballot is 380, there being 285 at Hutt, 90 at Miramar, and five at Johnsonville. i
