BAD NIGHT FOR SHOPPING
Shoppers nad an unenviable time in the city last evening. Strong gusts and driving rain, at times of almost torrential quality, prevented the usual sauntering, chatty crowd from accumulating, and the few groups that did gather did so to await a favourable opportunity of scuttling across streets between downpours. Gutters overflowed in many places, and the edge of the footpath was a risky place, as the whirling blasts drove the cascades well over towards the walls.
