RABAUL ERUPTION

424 NATIVES MISSING

CANBERRA, July 16.

An exhaustive check by officers of the New Guinea Administration reveals that 424 natives, adults and children of both sexes, are missing sines the volcanic eruptions at Rabaul. It is feared that the majority are dead.

About 50 bodies already have been recovered and buried. The remainder of those missing are believed to have been overwhelmed and ' lie under debris.
