HUIA MEETS REVERSE
(By "Sticks."),
The senior A competition took an unexpected turn last Saturday when the Karori A team defeated Huia at Karori Park. This reverse removes Huia from the position of first equal in the competition, and gives Karori B a two-point lead. The absence of Browne and Wilson, the New Zealand representatives, from the Huia team had an adverse effect on the Huia play, but on the other hand the Karori team, which is the Karori Club's second team, showed improved form.
The game was a willing one, but generally speaking" Karori A had the advantage of Huia at most stages, and towards the close of the game the H'.na players began to show the strain ul fighting against such redoubtable opponents as the Karori players proved to be. S. McDonald scored the only goal, and this Karori player deserved the honour he secured, as he played an excellent game.
Hutt and Wesley met at the Hutt Recreation Ground, and these teams proved very evenly matched. Wesley showed to better advantage than Hutt in some ways, but the late arrival of three Wesley players called for too much effort on the part of the others in the early stages of the game. Bade, the Wesley left-back, was the outstanding player of the day, and for Hutt Eddie McLeod did a lot of useful work.
Technical proved superior to Univer
sity at Karori. Technical took the field a man short, but good stick-work "and accurate shooting gave them the advantage, the final score being C-2, an unusually high one for senior A hockey during-tne present season.
Karori B. the Karori Club's first team, has kept up the reputation or Karori for hockey this season. The team has never gone for big scoring, but has -played sound hockey, with some useful reserve. On Saturday this team played Wellington at Naenae, and in spite of a good showing by the latter team, won by a clear three goals.
