BRITISH BOXING CHAMPIONS
"British boxing champions do not take their positions seriously enough, writes John Macadam in the "Sunday Dispatch." "For overweight matches between title bouts, they are inclined to lie back and regard matters rather in the light of a great singer who is
asked to oblige with 'Annie Laurie.
"Now, this is a wrong attitude. There is only one standard for a champion—and that is the highest. So many of our boxers get the idea that they have done their job when, they win a title. In reality, they are only beginning it.
"There is no more austere life in this world than that of a successful boxing champion. He must always be fit. He must always be in training, and he must always be ready to go into the ring against any opposition and give of the same stuff that won him his crown."
