THE GRASMERE
The .barque Gfasmefe, .a~ photograph of which appears on this- page, was commanded; by Captain Fletcher, and rriade; the, voyage from London to Wellington in 95 days. £>n July 12 she "ran. into heavy, weather, and was roughly handled, heavy seas breaking on board, smashing up, two of .the boats.' On one occasion during . the storni .three, of , her seamen' were washed overboard, but,, hanging oh .to the running gear, were thrown on board again by a succeeding wave. Another seaman was. seriously hurt by being swept along the main deck. After discharging her cargo at Wellington the'Grasmere sailed for Port Chalmers, where she loaded for London. As shown in the photograph, she was kept in .excellent trim, her yards being neatly squared -and-\sails- carefully stowed. ■- ■ . . ■
