POWER BOARD'S BUSINESS
The upward trend of the Hutt Valley Electric Power Board's business was revealed at the monthly meeting of the board yesterday afternoon. Mr. A, W. ' Press presided. The engineer and general manager (Mr. E. F. Hollands) gave the following comparisons of power sales from April ] to June 30. the figures for the same period last year being in parentheses: —Availability rale: Domestic lighting, heating, and cooking, £17,875 16s 4d (£17,921 15s lid); commercial lighting. £3465 14s 9d (£3280 13s lOd); water heating, £3053 0s 3d (£2794 17s 7d); power, £10,280 19s .?d (£7190 15s 4d); public lighting, £1281 17s 3d (£1253 17s sd); totals (discount deducted), £33,522 16s 3d (£28,535 14s 9d), an increase of £4987 Is Gd. During June 41 new consumers were connected, and a further 63 additions were made to existing installations. The totals to June 30 were as follows: — Number of consumers, 12,943; number j of ranges installed, 2281; water heaters! connected, 2070; connected load in k.w.' 53,193. ■ j During the quarter ended June 30 the I remits registered each month were r.s j follows, the figures for the same month last year being in parentheses:—April, 2.773,300 (2,234,700); May, 3,033,600 (2,516,500); June, 3,121,700 (2.444,500): a total increase of 1,732,900 units for the quarter. Mr. Hollands reported that a sharp increase of bulk power purchased had occurred. The approximate extra cost for bulk power for the quarter under review was £2600. There was, however, a further increase in the unit consumption over the same period, mostly in connection with industrial power. The Borough Engineer (Mr, R. F. Mainland) wrote stating that it had been, decided to make a further test with a different make of incandescent and mercury vapour lamp in High Street.
