SILVER JUBILEE

C.P.O. PASTIMES CLUB

Brightly-coloured lights greeted the guests at the Central Post Office Pastimes' Club social and dance, held in the Masonic Hall, in celebration of their silver " jubilee on Wednesday night. Painted murals, intertwined with trails of wistaria, combined with the varied coloured lights, gave a cheerful atmosphere to the scene. Over 400 guests were present, including the Hon. F. Jones (PostmasterGeneral) and Mrs. Jones. '

■ An energetic orchestra was kept busy responding to many encore numbers, and Messrs. K. Smith and A. P. Wylie, the two M.C.s, introduced mony novelty dances. The distribution of paper hats caused much amusement. Claret cup was served and proved most popular with the many present.

A delicious sit-down supper was served, Iceland poppies being used to decorate the tables. The chairman, Mr. J. Troy, proposed the toast uf "The King" and the toast "The P. and T. Department" was responded to by Mr. Jones, who congratulated the "lub on its social activities. The toast of "The Pastimes Club" was proposed by Mr.'L. L. Hills (Staff Division), and Messrs. J. Hamilton, C. E. Brian, qnd C. Grieg replied. Solos were sung by Messrs. T. Osborne and O. Collings, and were much appreciated.

It was vev/ pleasing to see some of the original members of the club pre sent. The chairman (Mr. J. Troy) and his committee were congratulated on the efficient arrangements made to make such an enjoyable : and long-to-be-remembered evening.
