A girl named Dawn Carr, aged 6, owes her life to Constable Rusbatch, who rescued her'from drowning, at Portobello last evening. ' She was playing on the wharf at-6 o'clock and fell into water over six feet deep. There were no adults at .hand',, but a small boy ran to: Constable Rusbatch's house three hundred yards off. He hastened to the spot, dived! in,, and brought the insensible child to shore after at least four minutes' immersion.. He and another man had to carry on intensive resuscitation measures ■ for over 30 minutes before the.child came round.
The girl is little the worse for her mishap.
