FAIR TO FINE

WEATHER FORECAST

Special forecast for Wellington:— Moderate to strong north-west winds. Weather fair to fine; temperatures moderate. , The general forecast issued at noon today is for light to fresh west to south-west winds prevailing north of Kawhia and East Cape, and elsewhere moderate to strong north-west to west winds rising to gale force at times in parts of the Cook and Foveaux Straits areas. The weather is expected to be changeable in districts with a westerly aspect and in southern portions of the South Island, with passing showers at times in many places, but fair to fine in the eastern districts. South-west winds have prevailed over the northern portion of the North Island, but elsewhere winds have blown mainly from the west and north-west, the force being light to moderate generally, but strong at times about Cook and Foveaux Straits.

The weather has been changeable in the western and far-southern portions of the South Island, with much scattered rain. A few isolated showers have fallen, also, on the west coast of the North Island, but otherwise the weather has been fair to fine and pleasant. At Auckland yesterday showers fell in the morning. The afternoon was fine, with a moderate west-south-west wind prevailing. The rainfall was ,03in. This morning was still fine, with a light south-west breeze. At Wellington it was brilliantly fine, and there were eight hours of sunshine. A moderate to strong northwest wind prevailed.

"" Christchurch also experienced a sunny day. The morning was calm, but a light north-west breeze prevailed in the afternoon. At 9 a.m. today it was fine though hazy, with a gentle north-east breeze.
