'ON WITH THE MOTLEY'

STUDENTS DRESS UP

Many *of Wellington's young people attended the Training College dance at the Training College last night. Under a canopy o£ yellow, black, and orange streamers, the costumes of the many who wore fancy dress flashed a motley "of kaleidoscopic colours against a background of green foliage. A brightly-clad "Indian Prince" was dancing with a "Medieval Princess" with a long-peaked golden hat from which a veil flowed, and a "Fur Trapper" was seen'with a gay "Peasant Girl" with sequin-embroidered bolero and a skirt of many colours.. Dashing "Spaniards," "Columbines,1 "Scot* Girls," "Russians," "Hula Maidens,1 "Page Boys," a "Cossack" (with a great mop of unruly hair), "Tipsters," "Gipsies," "Cowboys," "Spanish- Senoritas," "Old English Ladies," and "Nazi- Storm Troopers" were all represented. The orchestra, the members of which also wore fancy, dress,-led the grand parade.' preceded by a- weirdly-garbed personage who conducted proceedings with a leafy branch in place of tha conductor's baton. Miss Marjorio Newport (who gave an exhibition dance) was the judge, and presented prizes to "A Skeleton" and ■a ' dainty "Dutch Girl" _ ~ After supper the Training College students performed some folk dances, "Rufty Tufty" being a universal favourite A blaze of colour was made when bright splashes of red, green, yellow and blurc were sent flashing out from the stage and glanced on-the varied costumes as the dancers w.eavea their way in and out of .-the mazes created. . . ~ The committee responsible for the successful arrangements comprised Misses Helen Maysmor, Mane Porter, and Gretchen McGreevy, and Messrs. p Kane, K. Hutchison, and. S. Gage Members of the staff present included Mr F L. Lopdell (principal) and Mrs. Lopdell, Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Lockhart, Miss M. J. Browne,. Miss J. Dixon, Mr. T. J. Young,' Mr. J. F. Johnson, and Mr. P. Macaskill.. . .
