English critics agree that the selectors have chosen a powerful allround side to meet New Zealand, though some regret that mere opportunity was not given promising younger players. From New Zealand's viewpoint there is at least the advantage that the visiting batsmen have played all the bowlers before, so know the characteristics of the attack.
H. G. Vivian has strained a leg muscle and M. W. Wallace split a finger. They are receiving treatment in London in preparation for the Test.
